Introduce yourself! Who are you?
Hi,  My name is Andrea Bernard Schroder – who am I?  This is actually a complex question as sometimes I don’t even know the answer to that question myself.

Publicly I am the owner of A candle and fragrance company, interior designer,  I have also appeared on various TV shows doing home design and this past fall on Lifetime’s Growing Up Supermodel.

What is one thing no one really knows about you?

Probably no one really knows that I have A big sense of humor – I am canadian and I have a very dry self deprecating sense of humor.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

To be a light and not a judge – I sat next to Steven Covey who wrote 7 habits of highly effective people and I peppered him for advice – he was probably trying to rest actually but every question I asked he responded the same – BE A LIGHT NOT A JUDGE. I started my candle company based on the idea of light.

What would you say to 16 year old you?

Cliche I guess – love yourself – don’t take life so seriously – don’t stop having fun!

What is your greatest fear?

Oh gosh – my fear of being alone.  I am a recovering codependent which means basing the value of yourself by what other people think especially in your primary relationship.  I was married for over 25yrs, since I was 18yrs old, and I was terrified of being alone.  It’s honestly a daily struggle for me to continually redirect my energy and focus inward.

Have you ever had anyone doubt you? How did that make you feel?

People doubt me all the time, people make up stories about others beginning in childhood, our parents label us – I was always the cute one, my sister the smart one – it’s like who decided this?  I tried to avoid this with my own children , but I catch myself all the time.  Positive speech patterns are very important.

What message do you think every woman should hear?

That they are perfect in every way.  Trust your powerful inner voice.  Embrace community.  I could go on and on, but its mostly advice to myself.

What is your favorite thing about where you live?

I love that I am in the center of everything, I can walk everywhere.

What do you love most about yourself?

These questions are intense – honestly after the most trying 2 years of my life (divorce), I humbly say that I love my determination to rise in the face of adversity.

Do you remember a specific time you overcame adversity?

Ha ha – look above – it’s a continual daily practice to not get sucked into reacting but rather choose to respond.

What is the biggest thing you’ve learned along the way?

That we live the life we choose.  Circumstances don’t define our inner landscape.  There are happy people in every situation and miserable people in every situation.  I choose happiness which can actually be A brave choice.

Why do you love to travel?

I actually hate the process of travel – TSA, delayed flights, that it takes more and more determination to travel.  I travel because I like to feel connected to the world beyond my bubble, I know my true self better when I am in Guatemala or Spain, or with my family in Canada

What motivates you most?

Progress.

How do you manage your work-life balance?

I wing it and am just active every day.  I am in touch with the girls in my office all day –

What is your favorite meal?

Tacos

What do you do on a daily basis to grow and move forward?

I put on a smile and tell the people in my world how much I appreciate them.

What is one thing people would be surprised to hear about you?

That I am a total night owl – 3am is a typical bedtime for me – it’s actually awful .

If you weren’t doing the job you have now, what would you be doing?

Writing children’s books

What is something on your bucket list?

Speak fluent Spanish – have tried before, and will try again – my Spanish is very bad – I don’t know how to conjugate verbs

Have you ever had an extraordinary experience? Describe it!

All the time – I’ll have a dream about someone and then there will be an email from them when I wake up.  Stuff like that happens to me all the time.

Where do you find inspiration?

God, other women, quotes, songs, books – I am in constant search for inspiration.
