I'm Rach DiMare. Born and raised in Chicago. Love exploring my city. I am a breast cancer survivor, lifestyle blogger, and l am willing to travel for food. I have been married for three years.
What is one thing no one really knows about you?
I used to play the piano. I started playing the piano when I was 5 years old. It got pushed aside as I got older and I'm now trying to revisit and get started playing again.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don't stop believing in yourself. The only person that can really get you somewhere and reach your goals is yourself.
What would you say to 16 year old you?
Continue to be you. You don't always have to follow the crowd to feel like you are somebody.
Have you ever had anyone doubt you? How did that make you feel?
Yes, I definitely have. The most prominent one was my college professors. They didn't believe in me because I wasn't your typical person to get in my major. There were probably like 30 people in my major. One of them told me I will fail and will never be successful. I felt awful and shocked that a professor would say something like that to a student. I thought they were there to be encouraging and to help. He also listed things I would not be able to achieve. The funny part is that I had already achieved it at that point.
We should all support one another. I believe every woman has something amazing to offer and if we all work together, it will be powerful. Strength in numbers.
There's so much to love about Chicago! I love the different neighborhoods and how each one has its own personality and you get a different experience in each neighborhood. I also love the food scene. There are so many amazing places to eat! I also just love the feel of living in the city and how everything is walkable.
What is the biggest thing you’ve learned along the way?
There are silver linings in every situation, good or bad. I really believe there is always something good that happens in your life even on the worst days. Being diagnosed with cancer sucks and so many fears go with that diagnosis, but at the same time I found so many blessings during my experience that I would have never thought I would encounter.
Why do you love to travel?
I just love exploring the beauty the world has to offer. Every place has something unique and I love learning the different cultures, lifestyle, and trying out the food. Every time I travel, I always take away life lessons.
How do you manage your work-life balance?
Giving yourself that cut-off time. I used to work at all hours and I used every device possible (phone, laptop, etc) to check on work. But a lot of the stuff can be done the next day. So I set a cut-off time and promise myself not to check on work. I purposely have two different phones for work. So once I'm home, my work phone turns off.
What is something on your bucket list?
Travel! Travel has always been my passion. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with breast cancer right when my husband and I decided to start traveling more. However, now we are starting to pursue that passion. I have also always dreamed of curating my own clothing collection. I've always been into fashion and having a collection that I know I created would be a dream come true!
